envelope.
o All writing and work from earlier Quarters.
Please note: All reflections, beside the one written in class at the
final, should be typed, double spaced, in 12 point Times.

Writing Assignments are due on the Monday of the week following the
above schedule. Example: Week 3/1 assignment will be due on January
28th. These responses should be in paragraph sytle and are
approximately 250 to 300 words long.
Week 3/1: Describe in as much detail as possible Ish’s predicament in
the first two chapters.
Week 3/2: What is the importance of the italicized sections of the
novel? Explain how they help develop the plot.
Week 3/3: Develop a “biography” of yourself based on your travels.
Explain, in third person “he” or “she” where you have been in your
life. Describe these places in the same way Steward describes Ish’s
trip across the deserted U.S.
Week 3/4: What is your favorite fable? Why this one?
Week 3/5: What are some of the major problems Ish is having at this
point in the novel? Explain why he struggles so hard to overcome these
difficulties.
Week 3/6: How does “religion” affect the characters in this story? How
does it affect you?
Week 3/7: Choose one of the following topics and white a paragraph on
what importance it has to the story: Dystopia; Uutopia; mysticism;
metaphysics; epidemics; pandemics; social evolution; Ishi, (the last
wild Native American).
Week 3/8: Find at least five examples of “ending foreshadowing”
in this section. What do these clues give the reader about how this
novel might end?
Week 3/9: Write a one page reflection/summary of your feelings
regarding the basic theme of Earth Abides.
