Does your child receive some extra help with reading or math? This year that help might be delivered in the Learning Center classroom, as well as in the Resource Room. We're blending our resources to increase delivery of service to students and decrease paperwork.
Does your child need a boost in reading, writing or math? Please feel free to talk to your child's teacher or to give me a call directly at 937-0515 ext.105. We'll try to meet needs for skill building or concept development in the most efficient possible way.
Does your child have difficulty with getting homework completed? Maybe Homework Help program can be of benefit. Please feel free to call or stop by Room 5 at MGS to touch base.

Fourth Grade Homework and Helpful Hints

MATH

Students in my math class have nightly homework Monday through Thursday, always due the following morning. The work comes from the Everyday Math curriculum at various grade levels and from other resources.

The students are also required to practice addition, subtraction, or multiplication facts 10 minutes daily until they reach automaticity (about 60 correct fact answers written in 3 minutes). They document this work on their "green sheet" which the parent then initials. the green sheet is turned in weekly, on Friday, to Deena for credit.

HELPFUL HINT: For students struggling with math or in need of memorization of facts, card games are invaluable. Three you can use very successfully for addition are cribbage, casino, and Blackjack. I have rules available if you don't have a copy of Hoyle's. There are also games from Everyday Math. Right now we are using addition and subtraction Top-It and students should know those. Contact me if you need more suggestions, please.
